Your subscription includes:
- Math (Kindergarten to Grade 12)
- English Language Arts (Kindergarten to Grade 12)
- Science (Kindergarten to Grade 10), including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics

You can start using IXL through:
- The IXL app on Android or iPhone
- Any web browser at ca.ixl.com
This makes it easy for children to learn at home, on a tablet, or on the go.
What Is IXL and How Does It Help Students?
IXL is a powerful online learning platform that provides skills-based practice, instant feedback, and guided learning. It can be used:
- Daily or weekly
- As a school supplement
- For homework support
- For review and skill building
- For advanced learning
For parents of Grade 3, 6, and 9 students, IXL is an excellent tool to support EQAO test preparation.
How to Use IXL Effectively at Home
While having an IXL subscription is a great start, real progress comes from consistent practice and encouragement. Parents can support their children by:
- Setting a regular study schedule
- Encouraging them to try even when questions are difficult
- Watching the short instructional videos before starting a new skill
These videos and examples help children become more confident and independent learners.
Understanding IXL’s SmartScoring System
One unique feature of IXL is its immediate feedback and point system. When a child answers incorrectly, points are deducted. This may feel frustrating at first, but it teaches:
- Persistence
- Accuracy
- Careful thinking
Each skill usually includes 15–20 questions, moving from easy to more challenging. Making mistakes is a normal part of learning and improvement.
All Grade Levels Are Unlocked
Your IXL account gives access to every grade level, which allows children to:
- Review past topics
- Strengthen weak areas
- Explore higher-level content when ready
This flexibility supports both struggling learners and advanced students.
Is IXL Right for Every Child?
IXL—especially IXL Math—has helped many students thrive. Some children in our group have made remarkable progress using it.
However, every child learns differently. If your child does not enjoy IXL at first:
- Do not force it
- Sit with them
- Offer encouragement
- Let them build confidence slowly
If it is not a good fit long-term, it is okay not to renew next year. IXL is just one learning tool, not a requirement or a measure of success.
