Welcome to IXL for New and Returning Families

A big thumbs up to all our parents—both new and returning—for your unwavering commitment to your children’s education. We’re happy to share that your IXL subscriptions have been successfully created or renewed and are now fully activated.

Your subscription includes:

  • Math (Kindergarten to Grade 12)
  • English Language Arts (Kindergarten to Grade 12)
  • Science (Kindergarten to Grade 10), including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics

How to Access IXL Online

You can start using IXL through:

  • The IXL app on Android or iPhone
  • Any web browser at ca.ixl.com

This makes it easy for children to learn at home, on a tablet, or on the go.

What Is IXL and How Does It Help Students?

IXL is a powerful online learning platform that provides skills-based practice, instant feedback, and guided learning. It can be used:

  • Daily or weekly
  • As a school supplement
  • For homework support
  • For review and skill building
  • For advanced learning

For parents of Grade 3, 6, and 9 students, IXL is an excellent tool to support EQAO test preparation.

How to Use IXL Effectively at Home

While having an IXL subscription is a great start, real progress comes from consistent practice and encouragement. Parents can support their children by:

  • Setting a regular study schedule
  • Encouraging them to try even when questions are difficult
  • Watching the short instructional videos before starting a new skill

These videos and examples help children become more confident and independent learners.

Understanding IXL’s SmartScoring System

One unique feature of IXL is its immediate feedback and point system. When a child answers incorrectly, points are deducted. This may feel frustrating at first, but it teaches:

  • Persistence
  • Accuracy
  • Careful thinking

Each skill usually includes 15–20 questions, moving from easy to more challenging. Making mistakes is a normal part of learning and improvement.

All Grade Levels Are Unlocked

Your IXL account gives access to every grade level, which allows children to:

  • Review past topics
  • Strengthen weak areas
  • Explore higher-level content when ready

This flexibility supports both struggling learners and advanced students.

Is IXL Right for Every Child?

IXL—especially IXL Math—has helped many students thrive. Some children in our group have made remarkable progress using it.

However, every child learns differently. If your child does not enjoy IXL at first:

  • Do not force it
  • Sit with them
  • Offer encouragement
  • Let them build confidence slowly

If it is not a good fit long-term, it is okay not to renew next year. IXL is just one learning tool, not a requirement or a measure of success.

A Supportive Learning Community

This Parenting Group is here to help one another. Whether you have questions, need advice, or want to share what’s working for your child, feel free to reach out.

Together, we create a positive and supportive learning environment for all our children.

Happy learning! 📘✨

The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) assessments are standardized tests administered in Ontario, Canada, to measure student achievement in various subjects. Here are some preparation tips for EQAO assessments:

  1. Understand the Format: Familiarize yourself with the format of the EQAO test you will be taking. Knowing the structure of the test will help you manage your time effectively during the exam.

  2. Practice with Sample Tests: Obtain past EQAO assessment papers from your teachers or through online resources and practice answering questions under timed conditions. This will help you become accustomed to the types of questions asked and improve your test-taking skills.

  3. Utilize Online Resources: Regularly practice with online platforms like IXL to reinforce key concepts and skills. Instead of cramming, aim to practice regularly over time to build a strong foundation of knowledge.

  4. Use IXL Video Feature: Take advantage of IXL's video feature to review concepts and seek help when needed. Watching instructional videos can provide additional clarity and support in understanding difficult topics.

  5. Focus on Key Concepts: Review key concepts and topics that are likely to be covered in the assessment. Pay close attention to areas where you may need additional practice or reinforcement.

  6. Develop Problem-Solving Skills: EQAO assessments often include questions that require critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Practice solving different types of problems and learn various problem-solving strategies.

  7. Work on Communication Skills: For assessments that include written components, such as the Grade 9 Math Assessment, focus on improving your communication skills. Practice writing clearly and concisely to effectively convey your ideas.

  8. Seek Help if Needed: If you're struggling with certain concepts or topics, don't hesitate to seek help from your teacher, tutor, or classmates. Working through difficulties with others can enhance your understanding and boost your confidence.

  9. Stay Organized: Create a study schedule and allocate time each day to review and practice for the EQAO assessment. Staying organized will help you cover all the necessary material and reduce last-minute cramming.

  10. Manage Test Anxiety: Practice relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or visualization, to manage test anxiety and stay calm during the assessment.

  11. Review and Reflect: After completing practice tests or studying, take the time to review your answers and identify areas for improvement. Reflect on your strengths and weaknesses to guide your future study sessions.

  12. Stay Positive: Maintain a positive attitude towards the EQAO assessment and your ability to succeed. Believe in yourself and your preparation efforts.

By incorporating these additional strategies, you can enhance your EQAO preparation and increase your chances of success on test day. For young children, such as Grade 3 and Grade 6 students, parents are encouraged to provide guidance on how to manage study times and frequencies. The early the preparation the better.
